 HARD SURFACE MODEL- CANNON


I Got The Inspiration from by movie called Pirates of caribbean. I started modeling very late, so that I picked this model. I took reference Image from google and tried to create a model by using this reference; https://pin.it/1RnKqDw












MODELING IN MAYA


I started Modeling in maya because,  I Have little bit experience in 3Ds Max so that I prefer to model it in maya rather than z-brush. If I do it in zbrush I have to retopology in maya. I started to create the cannon by using cylinder and cube to model. By using tools like extruding and Beveling the egdes.

But making hard surface model in maya is easy because it has all the tools to model. I have created seperate parts like cannon barrel, wheels, axle and wooden structure.

UV- MAPPING


This model was quite a task and I ended up doing the mapping for the body and all the parts which are included in the model seperate so that I get a good UV's.

TEXTURING




I have done the Texturing in Substance Painter by bringing the model and Baked the maps. I have created a base layer added stains, dirt, surface details, edges and sharpen. After I Have done with textures I imported the textures to maya. I have used substance plugin in maya to import the textures and map it to respective mesh.

LIGHTNING




I have started Lightning the scene for rendering by using Skydome Lights. I have added HDR images to the skydome lights to get better reflection out of model. After setted up lightning I have Started to render my scene with Denoiser Optix because I have been getting noise in my intial render.

SELF- CRITIQUE


I Should have started with this model early, so that I would have time to do the modeling and UV mapped good by creating good seams and cut. I have learned a lot in this project like UV mapping,
 texturing and rendering. Rendering this model took a lot of time and maya crashed a lot while rendering because I have been using De noiser optix to avoid noise in my render. I thought of adding lot of details to my model because I have started this project late next time I need to do better than this.
